The Egyptian collection
Most of our visitors come to see the mummy, the only mummy in any museum in Israel. But the collection goes beyond it, from prehistory to Coptic Egypt.

Most of our visitors come to see the mummy. Not just any mummy, but the mummy, as it is the only mummy present in any museum in Israel. No wonder that he has been the protagonist of a number of exhibitions, and as recently as 2016–2017 he was the star of an exhibition at the Israel Museum entitled A Mummy in Jerusalem: Secrets of the Afterlife.
However, our Egyptian collection goes beyond the mummy itself, and includes a number of quite interesting material, right from prehistory – including the Palaeolithic – through to late Egyptian Coptic material.
Due to constraints of space – our Museum also doubles up as a lecture hall – things are not always displayed in the most logical order. This guide will therefore try to guide you through our collection, moving you from one showcase to the next.
