Study in Jerusalem

The Jerusalem campus of the Pontifical Gregorian University offers students a unique opportunity to pursue biblical and theological studies in the land where the events of the Bible took place.

Situated in the heart of Jerusalem, the Institute provides an exceptional academic environment in which rigorous study, direct engagement with the biblical world, and dialogue with the rich cultural and religious traditions of the Holy Land come together.

Following the integration of the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Pontifical Oriental Institute into the Pontifical Gregorian University, new academic programmes and opportunities are currently being developed for students of the Gregorian University who wish to pursue part of their studies in Jerusalem. These initiatives complement the well-established programmes developed over the years for students of the Pontifical Biblical Institute.

The Jerusalem campus maintains and continues to develop its academic collaboration with leading institutions in Israel and the Holy Land, including the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the École Biblique et Archéologique Française, and the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum. These partnerships provide students with access to a broad academic network and to the exceptional resources available in Jerusalem for the study of the Bible, its languages, history, archaeology, and cultural context.

In addition, new agreements are currently being explored and developed for joint academic programmes with the global network of Jesuit universities (IAJU), as well as with foundations and academic centres in Europe. These collaborations aim to expand opportunities for international students and scholars and to strengthen Jerusalem’s role as a place of encounter between academic traditions and institutions from different parts of the world.

Studying at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Jerusalem therefore means becoming part of an international academic community and experiencing biblical studies in direct contact with the geographical, historical, archaeological, and cultural setting of the Scriptures. The campus offers an environment in which classroom learning, field experience, research, and dialogue with other academic institutions can enrich one another, providing students with a distinctive and formative experience.
